About "Ohcat"
Two musicians, a flutist and a pianist, formed Ohcat band in 2011 with a collection of music scores they themselves had composed over the years. They had dreamt of creating beautiful music that moves people to a place of comfort. Both gathered former colleagues in orchestras and recorded music rooted in classical instruments but expressing modern sensibilities. Fans listen to Ohcat’s music during their rest as it creates a comfortable ambiance.
The music in the first and the second albums can be heard frequently in broadcasting programs in TV and radio as background music as well as in public places such as large shopping malls.
Ohcat’s music belongs to “Easy Listening” genre, and both musicians request not to classify their music as “New Age”.
피아니스트겸 작곡가 성고은과 플루티스트이자 작곡가인 윤정희는 2011년에 밴드 '오켓'을 결성하였다. 오켓은 오케스트라 악기들에 의해 연주되는 컨템퍼러리 뮤직에 촛점을 맞추어 작곡을 하여 앨범을 발매하고 있다. 그들의 음악은 편안한 휴식 같은 음악을 원하는 사람들이 팬층을 이루고 있으며, 방송과 대형 쇼핑몰의 배경음악으로 많이 사용되고 있다. 오켓은 종종 뉴에이지 음악가로 분류되고 있으나 그들은 뉴에이지 음악가가 아님을 밝혀 둔 바 있다.
The First Album, “Overture to Ohcat”
“Overture to Ohcat”, Ohcat’s first extended play album, was released in 2012. It contains six fairy tale like tracks that were composed, arranged and produced by the Ohcat members. The title of the album suggests launching of Ohcat band’s music activity. Immediately after its release, its tracks have been heard in TV programs as background music as well as in large shopping malls, cafes, and bookstores.
오켓의 첫번째 EP 앨범인 'Overture to Ohcat (오켓의 서곡)'은 2012년에 발매되었다. 모두 6곡의 동화같은 음악이 담겨있는데 오켓 멤버들에 의해 작곡되고, 편곡되었다. 이 앨범의 제목에는 오켓의 음악 활동이 시작됨을 알린다는 의미가 있는데 발매된 2012년부터 TV 프로그램들의 배경음악으로 쓰이고 있을 뿐 아니라 대형 쇼핑몰, 서점, 까페 등에서 매장음악으로도 자주 사용되고 있다.

The Second Album, “Concerto for Ohcat”
The second album, “Concerto for Ohcat” was released in 2014. This album, like the first, also was created by the two members, who acted as producers, composers, arrangers, and performers. Compared to the first album, it contains much-expanded orchestra instruments in its seven instrumental tracks as well as one vocal music piece, performed by well-known contemporary Christian musician, Juri. CLEF Arts Chamber Orchestra , a gathering of young musicians, participated in its string recording. It also has been widely used in TV, radio program as well as store music in many places.
오켓의 두번째 EP 앨범인 'Concerto for Ohcat (오켓을 위한 협주곡)'은 2014년에 발매되었다.
이 앨범 역시 두 멤버가 작곡자, 편곡자, 연주자 그리고 프로듀서까지 겸한 음악 결과물이다. 1집보다 오케스트라의 편성이 확대되었으며, 7곡의 다양한 장르의 연주 음악과 1곡의 노래곡이 들어있다. 한국에서 잘 알려진 CCM 가수 주리가 보컬로 참여하였고, 한국의 젊은 연주자들로 구성된 CLEF arts 쳄버 오케스트라가 스트링 녹음에 참여하였다. 이 앨범 역시 발매 직후부터 TV 프로그램들과 라디오, 그리고 여러 대형 매장에서 배경음악으로 자주 사용되고 있는 중이다.

The Third Album, “Sonatine of Ohcat”
The third album, “Sonatine of Ohcat” was produced and is being released in the U.S.
As the name “Sonatine (Sonatina in English)” suggests, Ohcat band presents finely refined music of a smaller scale in its instrument numbers and its length. It was composed and arranged for flute, clarinet, and piano. True to its previous works, as in the first and second album (Overture and Concerto), it contains beautiful music played with classical music instruments, that provides comfortable and cheerful melodies. Furthermore, it also renders mystical and melancholic experiences that add depth to its music that has matured.
오켓의 세번째 EP 앨범 ‘Sonatine of Ohcat’ 이 2019년 미국에서 제작되고 발매되었다. 이번 앨범은 전의 앨범들과는 다르게 플루트, 클라리넷, 피아노의 소규모 편성으로 작곡되고 편곡되었다. 오켓은 지금까지 Overture(서곡), Concerto(협주곡) 같은 클래식 음악 연주 포맷을 바탕으로 하여 앨범을 제작해 왔는데 이번 새 앨범은 그와 같은 맥락으로 실내악 컨셉의 작은 음악들- 소나티네를 준비하였다. 3집에는 편안함, 휴식, 경쾌함 등의 오켓의 기존 음악적 정서가 변함없이 담겨 있으나 그 외에 신비롭고 우수에 찬 정서를 가미하여 듣는 사람으로 하여금 한층 더 성숙한 오켓 음악의 깊이를 즐길 수 있게 했다는 것이 오켓 뮤지션들이 이 앨범에서 자부하고 있는 점이다.
미국으로 활동무대를 넓힌 오켓의 첫 결과물인 이 앨범을 발판삼아 한국 뿐 아니라 세계 여러 나라의 사람들에게 휴식과 위로가 되는 음악을 들려주겠다는 오켓의 새로운 목표가 기대된다.
